Anointing Your Home

13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:13

The same promise still stands to this day: that when the Mighty One, or El Gibhor (Isaiah 9:6), sees the Blood of His son, Jesus Christ spiritually upon us, He will ensure that his wrath will pass over us. Setting our home apart and declaring it as one of His prized possessions demonstrates our trust and faith in Him as our Protector and Saviour.

In the old testament, the Lord instructed them to use the blood of sacrificed animals as their sign or declaration that they were His people and believing in Him. Now according to Hebrews 10:10, “we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all”. This means, the Blood that Christ shed for us was the final blood sacrifice the Lord required to cleanse us and know that we are His. As we declare the Blood of Jesus over our home, we are spiritually declaring that our home belongs to the Lord God Almighty and may be blessed through His grace and mercy.

Simple Suggestions:

  • There is no explicit instruction on how often this should be done. At CMGD, we recommend anointing your home monthly. We do it on the first of every month. It’s a beautiful reminder to us that our home is a blessing from Him. That He is our Provider and deserves the Glory in all that we are and do.

  • Throughout the Bible, olive oil is used to mark someone or something as important, chosen by God or set apart and holy for God (1 Samuel 16:1-13, Genesis 28:18). You may use olive oil to anoint your home as well for this reason. Your home is chosen as a safe place for you and your family by God. It is holy and set apart by and for Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with hearts filled with gratitude and reverence. We acknowledge Your sovereignty and grace, and we invite Your presence into this home. We thank You for the gift of this house, a place of refuge, comfort, and love.

Lord, we ask that You bless every room, every corner, and every space within these walls.

In the entryway:

As we anoint the entrance of this house, we pray that everyone who crosses this threshold may feel Your peace and presence. Let this home be a place where Your love is evident, and Your blessings are abundant. Guard us from all harm and evil, and may only goodness and light enter here. “The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:8)

In the living room:

We anoint this living room where we gather for fellowship and rest. Fill it with Your joy and laughter. Let this be a place where relationships are strengthened, and memories are created. May Your Holy Spirit dwell among us, guiding our conversations and actions. “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matthew 18:20)

In the kitchen:

As we anoint the kitchen, we pray for provision and abundance. Bless the food that is prepared here and the hands that prepare it. Let this be a place of nourishment, not just for the body but also for the soul. May Your generosity be evident in the meals shared and in the hospitality extended. “He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.” (Psalm 111:5)

In the dining room:

We anoint the dining room where we share our meals. May this table be a symbol of Your provision and bounty. Let every meal be a reminder of Your grace and a time of thanksgiving. Unite us as a family and bless our discussions with understanding and kindness. “They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.” (Acts 2:46)

In the bedrooms:

We anoint the bedrooms, sanctuaries of rest and renewal. Bless these rooms with tranquility and safety. Let them be places of peaceful slumber and restorative sleep. May dreams be sweet and filled with Your guidance and comfort. Protect us through the night and rejuvenate us for the days ahead. “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8)

In the bathrooms:

As we anoint the bathrooms, we pray for cleanliness and renewal. Just as we cleanse our bodies, help us to cleanse our spirits. Let these spaces be reminders of Your promise of renewal and forgiveness. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)

In the study or work areas:

We anoint the places of work and study, asking for Your wisdom and inspiration. Bless the endeavors undertaken here, and let productivity and creativity flourish. May Your guidance be evident in all decisions made and tasks completed. “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3)

In the hallways:

We anoint the hallways, the paths we walk daily. Let these paths be blessed with Your presence, guiding us in every step we take within this home. May Your light shine brightly, illuminating our way and keeping us united. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

In the outdoor spaces:

We anoint the outdoor areas of this home, the garden, and the yard. Let these spaces be filled with Your beauty and peace. May they be places of relaxation and enjoyment, reflecting the glory of Your creation. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1)

Lord, we dedicate this house to You.

We ask that You make it a place of sanctuary, a haven from the world outside, and a reflection of Your kingdom on earth. May it be filled with Your love, peace, joy, and divine protection.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
